Dr. Quail Arnold
Director of Gifted Education, Atlanta Public Schools
I pride myself on being a native Atlantan. I grew up in the City of Decatur, attended City of Decatur schools and graduated from Decatur High School in the top 10% of my class. As a student in this system, I completed a summer residency program at Emory University, Gordon College and South Georgia College. Additionally, in high school, I had the opportunity to serve as a teacher cadet, which sparked my interest in education and teaching. I was able to witness the love and care that goes went into facilitating instruction and leading students to obtain a deeper understanding of a content area. It was this epiphany that led me to major in education.
While in college, I had a plethora of experiences that would help shape me into the educator I would later become. I interned at the local middle and high schools, I volunteered with my sorority and mentored young children. All of these experiences prompted me to further extend my education and obtain a Master’s degree and eventually a Doctorate degree in education. As I honed my skills, I later found a greater fulfillment in helping students seek unique and exciting educational opportunities, which is what drives my daily work.
I am particularly excited to be part of the Lab Atlanta Advisory Board. The innovation and creativity that is Lab Atlanta is fresh and exciting. It is exciting to be an active part of an opportunity to help students of my hometown obtain a new and different learning experience that will further propel them as they journey into college and/or career.
