Dan Gordon
Chief Operating Officer, Office of the Mayor, City of Atlanta

Dan Gordon is the Chief Operating Officer for the City of Atlanta. Mr. Gordon was appointed by Mayor Kasim Reed to oversee all City operating departments and related agencies including Aviation, Police, Fire, Corrections, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, Planning and Community Development, Public Works, Watershed Management, Human Resources, Procurement, Information Technology, Sustainability and Enterprise Assets. The budget for the City is approximately $2 billion per year. In 2017, for the first time in Atlanta’s history, reserves exceeded $170M.

Prior to joining the public sector, Mr. Gordon served as the Senior Vice President of Operations at The Home Service Store (HSS), a Roark Capital portfolio company. In this role, Mr. Gordon oversaw roughly 750 team members across the country and 40,000 large ticket installation projects. Before joining HSS, Mr. Gordon was the Chief Operating Officer of Extremity Healthcare, Inc. (EHI), a holding and management services company that supports over 15 entities. Collectively, EHI provides exceptional care through hundreds of thousands of patient encounters annually.

In 2007, Mr. Gordon was recruited to become the Director of Business Development for AMB Group – the management and support services arm for Arthur M. Blank’s diverse businesses – and Co-Founder and Vice President of the Atlanta Falcons Physical Therapy Centers (AFPTC), where he worked for over six years. Mr. Gordon’s responsibilities included analyzing and structuring a variety of new business initiatives and private investments. This included the development of AFPTC, which won three awards for providing the finest care and customer experience to its patients. The company operated twelve locations and retained all Center Directors since inception under his leadership. AFPTC was sold to a public company in 2013.

Before joining the Blank Family of Businesses, Mr. Gordon founded Soleria Development Group. The firm provides strategy consulting, negotiations and advisory services to select clients across the country, some of which are pro bono startups. In addition, Mr. Gordon worked at North American Properties in commercial real estate development, and before his graduate studies, at The Home Depot in the Business Leadership Program, Strategic Business Development, and Home Depot Supply. Mr. Gordon has participated in numerous startups, acquisitions, and joint ventures ranging in size from several hundred thousand dollars to over $5 billion. Uniquely, before the age of 30, he had the experience of working for four nationally recognized executives: Bernie Marcus, Arthur Blank, Bob Nardelli, and Mark Toro.

Mr. Gordon graduated from Emory University on a scholarship with a B.A. in International Studies. He later completed the One-Year MBA Program at Emory University concentrating in Finance and Real Estate. He was awarded the Integrity Award by his peers at graduation and is a published author on leadership. He completed advanced coursework at Harvard University and the London School of Economics as well. Mr. Gordon has been licensed in real estate since the age of 18 and worked as an entrepreneur in real estate throughout college.

Along with spending time with his family, Mr. Gordon enjoys supporting youth-at-risk, health care initiatives, and economic development projects for Atlanta. He serves or has recently served in the following volunteer capacities: Host Committee for the Atlanta Super Bowl, Host Committee for the Atlanta National College Championship Game, Executive Board of Visitors for Emory University, the Executive Board and Treasurer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, Board Member, Leadership Atlanta, Trustee of Outstanding Atlanta, Chairman of ELC for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Co-Chair of Grady Hospital’s Ambassador Force, and as an Advisory Board Member at the Bernie and Billi Marcus Foundation. He is also a member of Georgia Trend Magazine’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2012 and the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s 40 Under 40 Class of 2015.

Mr. Gordon is married to his college sweetheart, Jessica Gordon. They are the proud parents of twin daughters Lexie and Macey, and two rescue dogs, Bella and Cookie. Jessica runs a local adoption law firm and is a child advocate.
